Playbill reports:
Marvin Hamlisch and Rupert Holmes’ The Nutty Professor will get a studio cast album via TBIC Music Group. The album is expected to release in 2024, with casting to be announced. Based on the 1963 film, the 2012 musical would turn out to be the A Chorus Line composer’s final work—Hamlisch passed away during its world premiere run at Nashville’s Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
The musical follows Professor Julius Kelp, a socially awkward scientist who concocts a potion to transform himself into a suave ladies’ man. The film’s star, Jerry Lewis, directed the musical’s world premiere, which had been expected to be followed by a Broadway bow. Hamlisch’s death put the transfer plans on hold, though it did receive another staging at Maine’s Ogunquit Playhouse last year.
