Thank you Rupert Holmes for these beautiful words filled with love! — Team Marvin Hamlisch, The family of Marvin Hamlisch

It seems impossible that Marvin left us two years ago today. Surely it’s been only a short while since his vibrant personality, endearing wit and incandescent genius illuminated our lives so brightly. That light has yet to fade for us, and as music continues to charm, touch and move the world as powerfully as ever.
Still, for those who knew him best, two years without Marvin is a terribly long time to endure his absence. Surely he will come bursting into the room any moment, immensely excited about some new singer, songwriter, play, movie, restaurant or dessert he’s just encountered, eager to share his enthusiasm with us, an anecdote, an answer he gave to a college student’s question…or perhaps he will enter bearing the grand new inspiration that will save the day for the latest project…a theme, a phrase, a title, an angle, an entirely new take on the story or song.
While we wait, and desperately miss him each moment, it helps that we can find him alive and well, brimming over with laughter or heartbreak, in the brilliant legacy of work he left in the room for us to experience and enjoy…while he’s gone just down the hall to make a reservation for all of us at the best new dining spot in the city.
Two years seems like barely last week…and yet we’ve been without him now for what feels like forever.
Miss you Marvy Lad…
