Barbra Streisand graced the Oscar stage for the first time in 36 years to honor her late friend, Marvin Hamlisch.

Los Angeles, CA — She thanked the songwriter, who passed away last year, for his “extraordinary depth and versatility,” calling him “a generous friend who always made me laugh.”

Marvin Hamlisch was a composer of extraordinary depth and versatility. He was also a very kind and generous friend who could always make me laugh.”


Streisand added,

Over the years, we shared so many adventures together. Marvin left us way too soon, but I’ll always have those wonderful, wonderful memories.”

before launching into the Hamlisch — penned song “The Way We Were” from the 1973 movie of the same name.

The singer took center stage at the awards show earning a standing ovation after her sweet tribute.
